Insider Brief

  • GXO Logistics and Agility Robotics will expand Digit humanoid deployments to warehouses in North Carolina and Tennessee in early 2027, moving beyond their existing Georgia operation.
  • Digit will handle repetitive material-moving tasks at GXO’s Statesville, N.C., and Lebanon, Tenn., sites, starting with Digit 4 and later transitioning to Digit 5.
  • Agility said Digit has logged more than 65,000 hours across commercial and customer programs, while its existing GXO deployment has moved more than 100,000 totes.

GXO Logistics and Agility Robotics are expanding their use of humanoid robots to additional U.S. warehouses, with deployments of Agility’s Digit planned for North Carolina and Tennessee beginning in early 2027.

According to the companies, Digit will support e-commerce fulfillment at GXO facilities in Statesville, N.C., and Lebanon, Tenn., handling repetitive material-moving tasks. The deployments will initially use Digit 4 robots before shifting to Digit 5 when the newer model becomes commercially available.

The expansion builds on a commercial deployment at GXO’s Flowery Branch, Ga., facility, where the companies have worked together since a proof-of-concept pilot in late 2023. GXO and Agility signed a multi-year Robots-as-a-Service agreement in June 2024 that they described as the first formal commercial deployment of humanoid robots in live warehouse operations.

“Our partnership with Agility Robotics has been defined by a shared commitment to turning emerging technologies into real-world operational advantage,” GXO CEO Patrick Kelleher said in the announcement. “Together, we’ve helped pioneer the use of humanoid robotics in the warehouse and this expansion reflects our confidence in the technology’s ability to create measurable value for our customers and a better working environment for our teams.”

GXO’s Automation Efforts

At the Georgia site, Digit works alongside existing automation to move totes and place them onto conveyors. The companies said the robots have moved more than 100,000 totes at the facility, where Agility also provides its Arc cloud platform that GXO uses to manage robot fleets and integrate Digit into warehouse operations.

GXO has been using live warehouse operations to test and deploy automation technologies, including humanoid robots and other physical AI systems. The new deployments give Agility a broader operating footprint inside GXO as the companies move beyond a single-site deployment.

Agility’s Expansion

Agility is also building out manufacturing and support capacity for larger deployments. Its 70,000-square-foot RoboFab facility in Salem, Ore., is designed for annual production of as many as 10,000 robots, while the company has expanded its software, deployment and service operations.

Across Agility’s commercial deployments and customer programs, Digit has accumulated more than 65,000 hours of real-world operation, according to the company. Agility said that experience contributed to development of Digit 5, which it unveiled in September and designed for work near people and for a wider range of industrial tasks.

Agility is preparing to go public through a merger with Churchill Capital Corp XI. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, after which the combined company is expected to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker AGLT.
